PISCATAWAY, N.J. - Rutgers returns home to host Army with a 2-0 record on the season. A noon start, the game will be live streamed by BTN Plus, with Lou Brogno on play-by-play and Rick Mercurio on analysis. WRSU will provide a live radio broadcast on 88.7 FM.
ABOUT RUTGERS: The Scarlet Knights improved to 2-0 with a 19-15 road victory at St. John's last Saturday. RU scored the last seven goals of the game to overcome a three-goal deficit with 10 minutes remaining.
Kieran Mullins led the way with six goals and three assists, including five points in that final seven-goal run. He was named National Player of the Week by Warrior/US Lacrosse and was the Big Ten Offensive Player of the Week. He currently leads the Big Ten with nine goals on the year.
Adam Charalambides scored four goals for RU, and is right behind Mullins with eight goals overall.
Tommy Coyne added a career-high five points on three goals and two assists, as the starting attack combined for 13 goals and six assists. The team has averaged 39.5 ground balls per game, first in the Big Ten and fifth in the nation.
The Scarlet Knights have had great success at their home field. Dating back to the last game of the 2015 season, Rutgers is 22-2 in home games, with 11 ranked wins and eight conference victories. The only losses came to teams ranked No. 3 (Maryland, OT) and No. 6 (Johns Hopkins), both by one-goal.
ABOUT ARMY: The Black Knights earned a 12-11 overtime victory last week over No. 18 UMass in their season opener. Freshman Brendan Nichtern led the squad with four goals and three assists, including scoring the game winner, as was named the Patriot League Rookie of the Week. Miles Silva also added five goals. The team struggled on faceoffs, with two players combining to go 4-of-25 (16%) in the game.
ABOUT THE SERIES: The second-most played series in Rutgers' program history, behind only Princeton, the two teams have met 80 times with Army holding a 57-22-1 advantage. The Black Knights won last year's battle in West Point 9-7 after the Scarlet Knights took the previous two matchups. In 2016,
Adam Charalambides had four goals in his second career game to propel RU to a 13-11 road victory. In three lifetime matchups,
Max Edelmann has a save percentage of .571 with a 10.0 goals-against-average against the Black Knights, including 15 stops as RU won 12-10 in Army's last visit to Piscataway.
QUOTABLE: "The Army game is going be very spirited and contested. We are going to have to be sharp and mentally tough. It's going to be a battle. It's always a competitive, one-goal kind of game when we play them. I expect the same on Saturday. I hope we can grow from our experiences so far. We've had a lot of guys chip in to get the win at St. John's and we'll need the same against Army."
