Women’s Lacrosse Hosts Marist Saturday

Scarlet Knights take on Red Foxes at 3 p.m. ET
PISCATAWAY, N.J. – Rutgers women's lacrosse closes out its season-opening homestand with Marist on Saturday, Feb. 16 for a 3 p.m. matchup at HighPoint.com Stadium. The game is part of a doubleheader with the men's lacrosse program, who hosts Army at noon.

Last Time Out
Despite leading by as much as four goals in the second half, the Scarlet Knights suffered a tight 12-10 loss to Temple Wednesday night in Piscataway.
With just 2:18 left in the game and the score tied, 10-10, Temple's Olivia Thompson – who led the game with six goals – converted a pass from Abby Overman to put the Owls ahead, 11-10. The RU elected to pull their goalie in an attempt to tie the score with just 1:25 to play, but TU's Courtney Taylor closed out the Temple win with an unassisted score on Rutgers' open net with 59 seconds left for the 12-10 final.
Senior Allie Ferrara and junior Samantha Budd both produced hat tricks in the loss, as Budd and sophomore Taralyn Naslonski led the way with four points apiece for Rutgers. Naslonski and freshman Marin Hartshorn each added two goals to aid in the scoring effort.
Scouting Marist
The Red Foxes enter Saturday's game after an 18-9 loss to Army on Wednesday at Tenney Stadium in Poughkeepsie, New York. After a scoreless 15 minutes of play to open the game, Marist scored first courtesy of Camille Renaud. Both teams would trade scoring blows into the second half, as the Red Foxes only trailed, 8-6, with 27:45 left to play. However, the Black Knights used a 10-3 scoring run down the stretch to put the game out of reach.
Devon Connolly and Samantha Mehalick both produced hat tricks in the loss, while Renaud pitched in three points on two goals and an assist. Jana Rothman dished out three assists, while Marist won the ground ball battle, 24-22.
Series History
Rutgers is 3-0 all-time against Marist, including a 17-3 victory over the Red Foxes on March 26, 2003, Laura Brand Sias' first season as head coach.
Within the B1G
Naslonski has filled up the stat sheet in her first two games, accounting for 14 points on nine goals and five assists. Her 2.50 assists-per-game average is second in the Big Ten Conference, while her 4.50 goals-per-game average is tied for third in league play. Naslonski is tied for first in the Big Ten with seven points per outing.
Hartshorn, fresh off Big Ten Rookie of the Week honors, is second in the conference with 7.00 draw controls per game, and is tied for ninth in the league with three goals per contest.
Preseason Honors
Budd, Naslonski and senior Christine DiLullo were named Big Ten Players to Watch last month. For Budd, this marks the second consecutive season the conference has selected her to the preseason watch list, also appearing as a sophomore in 2018. This is the first-career preseason player to watch recognitions for DiLullo and Naslonski.
