Women’s Lacrosse Hosts No. 2 Maryland Saturday on BTN

Scarlet Knights take on Terps for 5 p.m. showdown at HighPoint.com Stadium
PISCATAWAY, N.J. – Rutgers women's lacrosse (5-6, 0-2) hosts No. 2 Maryland (11-0, 2-0) for a Big Ten Conference showdown at 5 p.m. ET on Saturday in Piscataway. The game will broadcast live on BTN, with Dean Linke and Zoe Stukenberg on the call.
The game also serves as the program's annual One Love game, as the Scarlet Knights continue to work with the foundation to ensure everyone understands the difference between a healthy and unhealthy relationship. A link to donate to the team's fundraising page can be found here.
The Terps enter Saturday's game with a No. 2 ranking in the latest IWLCA Coaches Poll and are one of just three undefeated teams (No. 1 Boston College and No. 8 Michigan) left in the country. UMD marks the fourth time in the past five games RU will face a ranked foe, as it has also played No. 7 James Madison (March 10), No. 6 Northwestern (March 14) and No. 18 Johns Hopkins (March 23) during the current slate.
Last Time Out
Down just one goal at halftime, Rutgers dropped a 16-9 Big Ten Conference game to No. 18 Johns Hopkins last Saturday in Baltimore. With the Scarlet Knights trailing 7-6 at the midway point, the Blue Jays used a 4-0 scoring run out of the locker room to pull away for the league win.
Sophomore Taralyn Naslonski netted her team-high seventh hat trick with her three goals and redshirt junior Dakota Pastore contributed a team-high four points on three assists and a score in the loss. Redshirt freshman Kameron Halsall had 13 saves for the second most in a game in her career, while RU won the ground-ball battle, 21-14.
Scouting Maryland
One of the top teams in the country, Maryland enters Saturday's game with an unblemished 11-0 record, which includes wins over No. 3 UNC, No. 4 Florida, No. 4 Syracuse, No. 7 James Madison, No. 8 Penn, No. 14 Princeton and No. 23 Penn State. In their last time out, UMD earned a 15-7 win over the No. 14 Tigers on Wednesday night in College Park.
Maryland's Jen Giles leads the team in points (46) and goals (32) this season, while Brindi Griffin leads the way in assists with 15. Megan Taylor is 11-0 with 107 saves and a 7.60 GAA in cage for the Terps. Caroline Steele has scored a league-high four game winners this season.
Kali Hartshorn, Maryland's second-leading scorer and the 2017 Big Ten Rookie of the Year, is the older sister of Rutgers' freshman Marin Hartshorn. Both played together at Allentown High School in Allentown, New Jersey.
Budd B1G Recognition
Junior midfielder Samantha Budd was named Co-Big Ten Offensive Player of the Week after she netted a career-high eight goals – including the game-winner with 48 seconds left – to lift the Scarlet Knights over Lafayette last Tuesday in Easton, Pennsylvania.
It was the first weekly honor of Budd's career and the fourth for RU this season, as Hartshorn (2x) and Halsall both earned Big Ten Freshman of the Week accolades. The four weekly awards mark the most for the program in a single season since it joined the league in 2015.
Rutgers within the NCAA & B1G
Budd and Naslonski have been two of the most productive offensive threats in the country this season. Naslonski is 10th nationally with 49 points and is also tied for 15th with 34 goals, 28th with 4.45 points-per-game and 30th with 3.09 goals-per-game.
Budd is tied for 27th with 30 goals and tied for 35th with 41 points this season. Within the Big Ten, Naslonski is first in goals (34) and points (49) and is tied for third in assists (15). Her 3.8 draw controls per game are also seventh within league play. Budd is tied for fourth in the Big Ten in points and goals.
