Big Ten Double Dual Final Results

Scarlet Knights secure five event victories in conference action

COLUMBUS, Ohio – No. 16 Rutgers rowing competed against Michigan State and No. 5 Michigan in a Big Ten Double Dual on Griggs Reservoir in Columbus. The Scarlet Knights earned five wins on the day, taking on the Spartans in the morning session and the Wolverines in the afternoon.

In the morning session against Michigan State, the Scarlet Knights picked up four head-to-head wins, highlighted by the varsity eight with its third victory of the season. Rutgers defeated Michigan State in a time of 6:25.82, which outpaced the Spartans' 6:31.82.

The first varsity four won its race against Michigan State 7:26.84-7:35.55. Rutgers also won the novice eight race, defeating the Spartans by more than 15 seconds in a time of 7:05.77, ahead of MSU's 7:20.99. RU raced a pair of boats in the second varsity four, taking the top two spots ahead of Michigan State. The second varsity four finished first in 7:28.39, followed by the third varsity four in 7:39.75.

The afternoon session saw Rutgers capture wins in the second novice eight and narrowly miss upending the fifth-ranked Wolverines in the varsity eight. The second novice eight finished first with a time of 7:12.57, followed by Michigan State in 7:16.35 and Michigan in third in 7:23.04.

In the first varsity eight, the Scarlet Knights placed runner-up in a photo finish just behind Michigan in 31 hundredths of a second as the Wolverines won the head-to-head matchup in 6:35.11, ahead of 6:35.42.

Rutgers will compete against Columbia, Wisconsin and Princeton on Lake Carnegie on April 27, followed by the Eastern Sprints on May 5 in Worcester, Mass.
