Varsity 4 Ties For Highest Finish By A Scarlet Knight Boat In Program History
GAINESVILLE, Ga. – The #10 Rutgers women's rowing team finished 11th overall at the 2026 NCAA Championships as the Varsity 4 tied for the highest finish by a boat in program history with a fourth-place performance in the grand final.
The Scarlet Knights' Varsity 8 took fifth in the petite final to place 11th overall, while the Second Varsity 8 won the C final for the second year in a row to claim 13th overall.
Texas won the 2026 NCAA Championship with 130 points, followed by Stanford with 125 points and Tennessee with 119 points. RU accumulated 75 points in its 11th-place finish, just two points shy of a top-10 finish.
Rutgers' Varsity 4 captured fourth in the Grand Final, matching the highest finish for a Scarlet Knight boat at the NCAA Championships. #3 Texas led the pack by three seats on #2 Stanford heading into the final 10 strokes of the race when the Cardinal boat caught crab and came to a stop. The Scarlet Knights, meanwhile, surged ahead to edge out #6 Virginia by .174 seconds and come in 1.328 seconds behind third-place #4 Washington.
The Varsity 4 matches the Second Varsity 8's fourth-place finish in 1997 as RU's best result in the NCAA Championship. It was the best finish by the Varsity 4, moving up one spot from last year's fifth-place performance.
Rutgers' Second Varsity 8 won the C final for a second straight season. The Scarlet Knights jumped in front, taking a nearly three-second lead through the first 500m. Their lead only grew as they pushed ahead by 5.494 seconds at the midway point and ultimately crossed the finish line with a 7.754-second margin of victory ahead of the second-place battle between #17 Columbia and #12 UCF.
The Scarlet Knights wrapped up the championship with the Varsity 8 taking fifth in the petite final to finish 11th overall. RU was edged by three strokes, coming in just under two seconds behind #9 Brown for fourth while holding down a 5.818-second advantage at the finish line over #14 Ohio State.
