PISCATAWAY, N.J. – Former Scarlet Knight
Casey Murphy has signed with Seattle Reign FC of the National Women's Soccer League (NWSL), the club announced Wednesday. Murphy returns to the States following a stint with Montpellier in the French Division 1 Féminine.
Â
Â
In 2018, the Bridgewater, New Jersey, native made an everlasting professional debut with the club by collecting the honor of best D1 Feminine French Goalkeeper by the French Football Federation. Murphy followed her rookie year by starting all 22 matches for Montpellier in 2019, guiding the club to a third place finish while allowing 27 goals. She also made two starts for Montpellier in the 2017-18 UEFA Women's Champions League quarterfinals against Chelsea.
Â
Murphy's collegiate resume boasts her status as a two-time All-American, two-time Big Ten Goalkeeper of the Year, two-time All-Big Ten First Team selection, and two-time All-Region First Team honoree. In the classroom, Murphy was tabbed a Scholar All-American and Academic All-Big Ten her senior season.
Â

Â
As Rutgers' keeper, Murphy became the program's all-time career shutouts leader in 2017 with 45 total clean sheets in just three years of action. She redshirted the 2016 season to compete for the U.S. Under-20 Women's National Team at the U-20 FIFA World Cup. The goalkeeper's career shutout total is a mark that ranks second in Big Ten history as well.
Â
Murphy led the U20 team to a fourth-place finish at the World Cup, starting all six games in the net. She boasted the most saves (21) and highest save ratio (77.8) among all goalkeepers at the tournament. Overall, Murphy's time with the U.S. WNT began with the U14 squad, going on to earn a call up to the senior national team for a pair of friendly matches against China PR last June.
Â
Prior to heading overseas, Murphy was selected 13th overall by Sky Blue FC in the 2018 NWSL College Draft, becoming the fifth Scarlet Knight to be drafted. She joins six other Scarlet Knights that are active in the league for the 2019 season, including Carli Lloyd (Sky Blue FC),
Madison Tiernan (Sky Blue FC),
Madison Pogarch (Portland Thorns FC), Erica Skroski (Sky Blue FC),
