PISCATAWAY, N.J. (May 8, 2019) – After a school-record nine Rutgers programs - field hockey, volleyball, men's cross country, women's cross country, gymnastics, tennis, men's golf, women's golf and women's lacrosse - earned public recognition from the NCAA for multiyear Academic Progress Rate (APR) scores last week, it was revealed today that the average multiyear APR rate for Rutgers Athletics is 990, seven points above the NCAA average of 983. It signals the third consecutive year that the Scarlet Knights have achieved a multiyear score of 990 or better.

Rutgers placed second in the 14-member Big Ten Conference in number of programs to earn NCAA recognition. Thirteen of RU's 22 teams are among the top 30% of Big Ten Conference programs in APR respective to sport. In addition to the nine programs that received recognition and are at the top of the Big Ten, men's basketball (4
th/14), softball (t-4
th/14), men's track & field (3
rd/13) and women's track & field (4
th/13) posted scores among the league's best.

Ten Rutgers programs either tied (men's cross country, 1000; women's cross country, 1000; women's golf, 1000; gymnastics, 1000; women's lacrosse, 1000; women's tennis, 1000; volleyball, 1000) or set (field hockey, 1000; men's golf, 1000; softball, 996) program records for multiyear APR rate. In addition, 14 teams either improved or remained constant in their position ranking among Big Ten peers relative to sport.

Ten Rutgers programs earned perfect single-year APR scores of 1000 for 2017-18. The average multi-year APR rate for women's programs "On the Banks" was 995.

All Rutgers University athletic programs are well above the 930 benchmark required by the NCAA.

The report is based on NCAA Division I APR data submitted by the institution for the 2014-15, 2015-16, 2016-17 and 2017-18 academic years.
The APR is an annual scorecard of academic achievement calculated for all Division I sports teams nationally. The APR measures eligibility, graduation and retention each term and provides a clear picture of the academic performance for each team in every sport.
