Four from Men's Lacrosse Named Distinguished Scholars
Jul 15 | Men's Lacrosse
PISCATAWAY, N.J. - Rutgers men's lacrosse continues to take great pride in their work not only on the field, but in the classroom, focusing on academic success. That was recognized in July as four student-athletes were recognized as Big Ten Distinguished Scholars: Max Edelmann, Kieran Mullins, Mark Schachte and Jack Thompson. It was the second career recognition for Mullins, Schachte and Thompson, while Edelmann and Thompson posted a perfect 4.0 GPA.
Established in 2008 to supplement the Academic All-Big Ten program, Distinguished Scholars must have earned Academic All-Big Ten recognition in the previous academic year, must have been enrolled full time for the entire previous academic year (two semesters or three quarters) and earned a minimum GPA of 3.70 or better during the previous academic year.
All four student-athletes achieved the recognition while challenging themselves in the major program. Edelmann was a Labor Studies and Employment Relations major as a graduate student, Mullins is majoring in Cell Biology and Neuroscience as a Pre-Med student, Schachte is a Finance major, and Thompson majors in Aerospace Engineering.
While balancing advanced academics, all four made significant contributions to the program on the field this season. Both Edelmann and Mullins were All-Americans and All-Big Ten, Thompson started 10 games on defense, and Schachte scored seven goals as an attackman.
In addition to this four Distinguished Scholars, a program record was set recently with five Scholar All-Americans (Edelmann, Kyle Pless, Mark Christiano, Garrett Michaeli and Adam Charalambides). A program record 24 student-athletes were named Academic All-Big Ten in May, including all four Distinguished Scholars.
