RV/17 Rutgers Women’s Soccer Hosts No. 11 Tennessee, Providence

Scarlet Knights face the Volunteers on Thursday, Aug. 29

PISCATAWAY, N.J. –  RV/17 Rutgers women's soccer is set to host No. 11 Tennessee on Thursday, Aug. 29 for a 7 p.m. ET kickoff at Yurcak Field. The Scarlet Knights then remain home on Sunday, Sept. 1, matching up with Providence for a 6 p.m. start.
 
Admission is free for all of RU's home matches. Fans attending are asked to register for free parking by clicking here.
 
PROMOTIONS
Fans are encouraged to wear black to the match against Tennessee for Thursday's Black Out. It also marks PDA Night and there will be a poster giveaway.
 
Sunday is Rutgers Club Sports Night. Students are invited to come meet team captains and sign up to be part of the squads. Multiple club sports will be represented.
 
RUTGERS QUICK HITS
  • Rutgers (2-0, 0-0 Big Ten) opened its season with victories over Central Connecticut State, the reigning NEC Champions, on Thursday and Fordham on Sunday.
  • Junior forward Amirah Ali, a 2019 MAC Hermann Trophy Candidate and Second Team All-American, led Rutgers with three goals and two assists on the weekend. She scored twice in the 2-1 OT win over CCSU, including the seventh game winner and sixth overtime goal of her career.
  • Classmate and forward Nneka Moneme recorded a hat trick in the 5-0 victory over Fordham, marking the first time a Scarlet Knight has scored three goals for RU in a single contest since 2011.
  • Sophomore Meagan McClelland, the reigning Big Ten Freshman of the Year, recorded the ninth shutout in the contest against the Rams. McClelland owns a 0.53 GAA with two saves. 
  • Rutgers is ranked No. 17 in both the Top Drawer Soccer and Soccer America polls. Additionally, RU is receiving votes in the latest United Soccer Coaches Poll.
 
SCOUTING NO. 11 TENNESSEE
  • Tennessee (2-0, 0-0 SEC) collected two home wins on opening weekend, including a 3-1 win over Fordham and a 3-0 win against Mercer.
  • Ma Vignola, an All-SEC Second Team selection in 2018, leads the Vols with two goals on the season.
  • Katie Cousins, a back-to-back Third Team All-American and First Team All-SEC performer, has registered two assists for the squad.
  • Charli Pogany is 2-0 in net for Tennessee with a 1.00 GAA and 0.667 save percentage.
  • The Vols are ranked 11th in United Soccer Coaches and Soccer America polls, while ranking 10th in the TDS poll.
  • Tennessee owns a win in the single matchup between the programs back in 2001. The contest was at a neutral site.
 SCOUTING PROVIDENCE
  • Providence (1-1, 0-0 BIG EAST) split its matches last week, defeating UConn, 2-1, and falling to UMass, 1-0.
  • Christina Rodgers and Hannah McNulty, an All-BIG EAST Second Team honoree in 2018, scored the Friars goals. Rodgers added in an assist as well.
  • In net, Shelby Hogan, an All-BIG EAST First Team selection last season, owns a 1.00 GAA and nine saves.
  • Rutgers leads the series with Providence, 14-2-1. The teams last met in 2016 at Yurcak Field for a match that resulted in a 1-1 draw.
