Women’s Golf to Open Season at Kansas State

PISCATAWAY – After a record-setting 2018-19 season that saw the Scarlet Knights set a program-record with a 300.07 stroke average, Rutgers begins its fall campaign Sept. 15-16 at the Marilynn Smith Sunflower Invitational hosted by Kansas State. Eleven teams will compete on the par 72, 6,256-yard Colbert Hills Golf Course that features zoysia fairways and bentgrass greens.
Seniors Carrie-Ann Lee and Ana Cortes, junior Eun Won Park, sophomore Maeve Rossi and freshman Anna-Maria Diederichs will comprise the RU travel party under head coach Kari Williams. It marks the first event as a Scarlet Knight for both Park and Diedrichs.
Rutgers is joined by the host Wildcats, Central Arkansas, Florida Gulf Coast, Kansas, Kansas City, New Mexico State, North Texas, Texas-Arlington, Texas State and Tulsa.
The Scarlet Knights last competed at the Sunflower Invitational in September 2017, placing fourth with a 904 (309-287-308) total in the nine-team field. Ashleigh Greenham set a program-record with a second-round 66, as the team established a then-best record with a 287 round. Greenham finished fourth in the 51-player field with a 219 (78-66-75).
Colbert Hills has been ranked the No. 1 public golf course in Kansas every year and recognized as a Top 15 ranked collegiate golf course in the county. The course has hosted the 2002 Big 12 Women's Golf Championship, 2003 NCAA Men's Central Regional Championship, 2005 Kansas Amateur, and the 2012-16 Colbert Charity Classic professional golf event.
The 54-hole tournament will be comprised of 36 holes on Sunday and 18 on Monday. Sunday will begin via an 8:30 a.m. (CT) shotgun start with continuous play through round two. The final round will feature an 8 a.m. (CT) shotgun start followed by an awards ceremony on the clubhouse patio. Live scoring will be available via Golfstat.
