Game Recap: Women's Volleyball |

Volleyball’s Sweep of Quinnipiac Marks Longest Win Streak Since 2012

Scarlet Knights have won five in a row, including a nine-set win streak

HAMILTON, N.Y. (Sept. 14, 2019) – Rutgers volleyball (5-3) scored its second straight sweep and fifth straight victory by defeating Quinnipiac (4-4) on Saturday morning at the Ellis Rowland Memorial Tournament at Colgate.

The Scarlet Knights have won five straight matches for the first time since 2012, when they won 12 in a row to start that season 14-1.

STANDOUT STATS
  • Sophomore outside hitter Anastasiia Maksimova racked up a match-high 10 kills while adding five digs.
  • Sophomore setter Inna Balyko put together a trademark well-rounded stat line with 31 assists, five kills on five swings for a 1.000 attack percentage, four digs and two blocks.
  • Senior libero Karysa Swackenberg led the match with 14 digs.
  • Senior middle Jasmine Stackhouse led all blockers with five total.
  • Rutgers led in every phase of the game: kills (39-29), aces (8-1), digs (35-30) and blocks (10-8).
KEY MOMENTS
  • Set 1 | Maksimova had two clutch kills in crunch time. With the Bobcats charging on a 3-0 run and Rutgers clinging to a 20-18 lead, the Russia native punished a set from Balyko to end the run, then put the set away at 25-22 to end set-point.
  • Set 2 | In one of the most efficient offensive sets of the season, Rutgers hit .579 as a team without making a single attack error. With a 7-6 lead, the Scarlet Knights finished the period on an 18-4 run.
  • Set 3 | RU had to fight back midway through the third down 16-13. Sophomore outside hitter Tali Marmen heated up with two kills and a block during a 6-1 run to retake the lead, also sparked by one of Swackenberg's two service aces on Saturday morning.
KNIGHT NOTES
  • Ranked 13th in the nation in team blocks per set, Rutgers has outblocked or tied opponents in seven of eight matches this season.
  • RU has six or more aces in six straight matches, going 5-1 over that span. Rutgers has led in aces in six of eight matches this fall.
  • Rutgers has won nine straight sets. After dropping the opening set to Virginia, the Scarlet Knights won that match 3-1 before sweeps of New Hampshire and Quinnipiac.
