No. 18 Field Hockey Opens Big Ten Play by Hosting No. 4 Maryland

PISCATAWAY, N.J. – No. 18 Rutgers field hockey begins Big Ten Conference play this weekend. The Scarlet Knights will welcome No. 4 Maryland on Saturday at 1 p.m.

Free Rutgers field hockey pint glasses will be given to the first 150 fans. The game is also part of Rutgers field hockey's alumnae weekend, which features a pregame brunch and postgame tailgate and Happy Hour.

ABOUT THE SCARLET KNIGHTS

Rutgers is coming off of a 2-1 win at No. 6 Princeton last Friday, marking the program's highest ever ranked road win. It marked the second ranked win for the team this season, seventh ranked win in the last two seasons. Of the program's 13 lifetime ranked wins, 10 of them have come over the last three seasons. In the win over Princeton, RU received goals from freshman Rachel Houston and junior Gracey Butsack, both of whom marked their first goal of the season.

The team has excelled defensively, with a 1.14 goals-against-average that ranks 11th in the nation. Goalkeeper Gianna Glatz, who was named the Big Ten Defensive Player of the Week, ranks second in the conference in goals-against-average and save percentage (0.771).
 
SCOUTING MARYLAND

The Terps, who recently defeated Princeton in overtime on Tuesday night, enter the matchup at 8-1, with the lone loss coming to No. 3 Duke, and four ranked wins. The program ranks in the top-ten in the nation in assists, goals, goals-against-average and penalty corners, outscoring their opponents by a margin of 2.32 per game.

Offensively, Madison Maguire leads the way with five goals and six assists for 16 points, while Bibi Donraadt and Bodil Keus each have 11 points. In between the pipes, Noelle Frost leads the Big Ten with a 1.01 goals-against-average.

Maryland leads the all-time series 31-3-1. The team's last victory over the Terps came in 1998.
