PISCATAWAY, N.J. - The No. 19/20 Scarlet Knights will compete in their first road contest of the season, traveling to No. 13/14 West Point for the annual matchup against Army. The Patriot League Network will stream the game. WRSU will have a radio broadcast of the game with Jake Schmeid and Robert Baxter on the call.
RU is 2-0 on the season following wins over Quinnipiac (20-9) and St. John's (17-10). The Scarlet Knights 37 goals through two games represent the most tallies in consecutive games since 1993, when RU defeated Lafayette 22-6 and Penn State 16-9 for 38 goals in back-to-back games. It marked the program's first time winning back-to-back games by a seven-goal margin since 2016. Rutgers' scoring offense of 18.5 goals per game is fourth in the nation, and its mark of 28.0 points per game is sixth nationally.
Rutgers'
Adam Charalambides and
Kieran Mullins were named to the Watch List for the Tewaaraton Award. Charalambides enters the game three goals shy of 100 for his career, while Mullins recently claimed 10th place on RU's all-time points list. Charalambides tied a career-high with six goals in the win over St. John's, which earned him a spot on the USILA's Team of the Week.
On the defensive end,
Garrett Bullett leads the Big Ten with 2.0 CT/game.
Stephen Russo has a pair of double-digit save efforts, leading the Big Ten at 13.0 saves per game.
Army has opened the season with two goals by a combined 36-5 margin, first defeating No. 18/19 UMass 17-4, then downing NJIT on Monday by a 19-1 score. The Black Knights were Patriot League champions last year, qualifying for the NCAA Tournament for the first time since 2010.
Army leads the nation thus far in scoring defense (2.5), scoring margin (+15.5) and man-down defense (1.000). They also rank fifth offensively in assists (11.5), points (29.5) and are sixth in scoring offense (18.0).
Wyatt Schupler, named Patriot League Goalie of the Week after his starting debut, holds a 2.90 goal-against average and .789 save percentage.
The second most played series in program history, this matchup will be contested for the 82nd time, with Army holding a 58-22-1 advantage. The series has been split 3-3 since 2014, with RU winning two of those contests on the road. In 2016,
Adam Charalambides had four goals in his second career game to propel RU to a 13-11 road victory. Last year,
Kieran Mullins had a hat trick and Charalambides had a pair of goals.
