Tennis Picks Up Road Win Against Delaware

WILMINGTON, Del. – Rutgers tennis picked up a road win against Delaware on Sunday, Mar. 1. The Scarlet Knights defeated the Blue Hens 5-2 at the Delcastle Tennis Center.
"This is a solid win for us today. Delaware competed well and we had to play aggressively to win at each spot," said head coach Hilary Ritchie. "This was a good match for us to work on things before heading to Minnesota."
The Scarlet Knights started off strong against the Blue Hens, clinching the doubles point.
Sophomore Tess Fisher and senior Kat Muzik took a quick 6-1 victory over Caragh Courtney and Jojo Bachin the No. 2 spot.
In the No. 3 spot, sophomore Sydney Kaplan and senior Jaci Cochrane defeated Isabella Montana and Viva Laas 6-4 for the doubles point.
Cochrane (No. 5) added another point to Rutgers' score with a win over Laas 6-2, 6-1. Fisher followed close behind defeating Montana 6-2, 6-4 in the No. 2 spot.
Junior Maya Jacobs clinched the win for the Scarlet Knights after playing a tie-breaker in the second set with Eliza Askarova in the No. 1 spot, winning 6-4, 7-6 (7-0).
Kaplan split her first two sets against Courtney and found herself down 4-6, 6-1, 6-10 in the No. 3 spot. Muzik (No. 4) also played into a third set against Bach, ultimately falling 4-6, 6-3, 6-2.
Sophomore Kristiana Zahare battled into a third set against Sarah Whited in the No. 6 spot for the victory 3-6, 6-2, 6-4, scoring the final team point for Rutgers.
Rutgers tennis hits the road again on Friday, Mar. 6 when they travel to Minnesota. The match is scheduled for 2:00 p.m. at the Baseline Tennis Center.
