PISCATAWAY – Oskar Palmquist was the second signee in Rutgers' 2020 class that also features fellow frontcourt players Dean Reiber and Mawot Mag. A native of Kinna, Sweden, Palmquist was a member of his country's U-20 national team and competed stateside at Central Pointe Christian Academy in Kissimmee, Fla., before enrolling for the spring 2020 semester.
"Oskar is a 6'8 versatile, athletic and tough player with a tremendous basketball IQ," said head coach Steve Pikiell on the date of Palmquist's National Letter of Intent announcement. "The combination of his skill set and work ethic excites us greatly. He is a member of the Swedish national team and his experience competing at the international level has prepared him well to come in and compete in the Big Ten. His athleticism and ability to shoot the ball are really exciting to us with his ability to score at all three levels."
This past semester, Palmquist redshirted and gained valuable practice experience during a record-setting season that saw the Scarlet Knights earn their first national ranking in 41 years, first 20-win regular season in 37 years, and most conference victories in 29 years. He will see his first collegiate action as a 20-year-old freshman for the Scarlet Knights in 2020-21.
