Joe Nardella, Michael Rexrode, Jules Heningburg to represent RU in USA Lacrosse Fall Classic
PISCATAWAY, N.J. - Three Rutgers men's lacrosse alumni will represent the program on the national stage this weekend, as Jules Heningburg, Joe Nardella and Michael Rexrode will compete with Team USA this weekend at the USA Lacrosse Fall Classic.
All three excelled this past season in the PLL, making the All-Star team and propelling themselves onto a national stage. Both Nardella and Heningburg have previous playing experience with Team USA, while Rexrode will compete for the first time.
The team will also be coached by a Rutgers alumn, John Danowski. A member of three NCAA Tournament teams while at RU, Danowski is second all-time in assists at RU to James Ford, who was named to the Rutgers Athletics Hall of Fame last weekend.
Heningburg is third all-time in RU history with 207 points. The Maplewood, N.J. native was a two-time All-American, two-time All-Big Ten selection, and two-time captain while On The Banks.
Nardella has established himself as one of the top faceoff specialists in the world following his RU playing career. While On the Banks, the Cazenovia, N.Y. native was a Third Team All-American and Big Ten Specialist of the Year in 2015, and was a three-time all-conference selection.
Rexrode proved himself among the nation's best defensemen this summer. The Leesburg, Va. native was the 2018 Big Ten Medal of Honor winner, and was a two-time All-American, two-time First Team All-Big Ten selection, and was the 2018 Big Ten Defensive Player of the Year.
The Fall Classic will bring the U.S. men's national team together for the first time since January 2020 and build towards the 2023 World Lacrosse Men's World Championship. The squad will play Canada on Friday, Oct. 15 in a rematch of the two countries that competed in the 2018 world title game. On Saturday, Oct. 16 the U.S. men will square off against Virginia. Both games will be held on Tierney Field at USA Lacrosse headquarters and tickets are now on sale. The event is also available to live stream via Lax Sports Network.
