Wrestling Preseason Rankings Update
Oct 27 | Wrestling
PISCATAWAY, N.J. – With the season less than two weeks away, Rutgers wrestling appears in several preseason polls ahead of the 2021-22 campaign. Intermat has the Scarlet Knights pegged as the No. 14 dual team and No. 15 tournament team in the country, while FloWrestling ranks RU No. 14 in its annual preseason tournament rankings.
Four Scarlet Knights – Sammy Alvarez, John Poznanski, Sebastian Rivera and Jackson Turley – earned consensus rankings from Intermat, FloWrestling and Amateur Wrestling News in their respective preseason polls. Poznanski, Rivera and Turley are all ranked within the top eight of their respective weight classes after reaching the podium this past March at the 2021 NCAA Wrestling Championships in St. Louis.
A full list of ranked wrestlers can be found below. Student-athletes' current weight may not be reflected in current preseason rankings.

RU hosts nine home events this season, beginning with its annual quad meet against Binghamton, Cleveland State and NJCU on Sunday, Nov. 7 in Piscataway. Rutgers hosts ranked foes Ohio State (No. 7) and Illinois (No. 21), as well as in-state rivals Rider (Feb. 3) and Princeton (Feb.18. Under the guidance of head coach Scott Goodale, Rutgers closed the 2021 season with three All-Americans in the same year for the first time in program history. Along with two-time NCAA qualifiers VanBrill and Billy Janzer (197), the Scarlet Knights produced 13 victories at nationals en route to a 13th-place finish with 37.5 team points. RU also welcomes one of the top freshmen classes in the country this fall, which includes New Jersey standouts Michael Cetta, Joseph Olivieri, Dean Peterson, Dylan Weaver and Tony White.
