Men's Lacrosse duo recognized by USA Lacrosse Magazine
PISCATAWAY, N.J. - Rutgers men's lacrosse had two players named Preseason All-Americans by USA Lacrosse Magazine. Ahead of the upcoming 2022 season, Colin Kirst and Ethan Rall were recognized as Third Team Preseason All-Americans by the publication.
The Scarlet Knights were one of just two Big Ten teams with players recognized on the listing. Both players were named All-Americans by the USILA following the conclusion of last season, and represent two of the five returning All-Americans RU boasts for this season, along with Jaryd Jean-Felix, Shane Knobloch and David Sprock.
Kirst was the Big Ten Specialist of the Year and a First Team All-Big Ten selection last year as he posted a 10.77 goals-against-average and .566 save percentage with 137 saves in his first season 'On the Banks'. The Bernardsville, N.J. native was also selected for the 2021 USILA Senior All-Star Game. Kirst steps into a captain role as he returns for his second season 'On the Banks', having received a Medical Hardship Waiver from the Big Ten in order to play one more season at RU.
Rall excelled last season as Rutgers' top long-stick midfielder. The Islip, N.Y. native was named Second Team All-Big Ten, the lone long-stick midfielder in the league to be recognized as all-conference. Rall had a career-high 26 ground balls and 14 caused turnovers, while posting one goal and one assist. He led the team in caused turnovers and was third in ground balls. He earned weekly honors from the Big Ten and the USILA over the course of the season.
The recognitions come ahead of the eagerly awaited 2022 season, as Rutgers' looks to build off of a highly successful 2021 campaign. The Scarlet Knights went 9-4 overall while qualifying for the NCAA Tournament for the first time since 2004. RU defeated Lehigh in the opening round to earn the program's first NCAA Tournament victory since 1990.
