Scarlet Knights record career and season highs to boost 195.225 team score

ANN ARBOR, MICH. – Rutgers gymnastics posted numerous career and season highs to register a 195.225 team score at the Big Five Meet on Saturday. Senior Belle Huang and sophomore Hannah Joyner finished second and third, respectively, in the all-around to lead the Scarlet Knights.

The meet hosted by #5 Michigan also featured #12 Iowa and Penn State. The results of today's competition and Friday's Big Five Meet that featured host Maryland, #22 Illinois, #11 Minnesota, #20 Nebraska and Ohio State will be used to determine seeding for the Big Ten Championships in March.

FLOOR
Rutgers started its first rotation on floor, as senior Belle Huang anchored the Scarlet Knights with a team-high 9.850 in the event. Sophomore Hannah Joyner's routine earned her a 9.800, while freshmen Emily Wood and Avery Balser contributed a 9.725 and 9.700, respectively.

VAULT
Moving to vault for the next rotation, Huang and sophomore Jenna Ferguson each added in 9.775 marks to lead the lineup. It marked a career-best score for Ferguson. Joyner posted a 9.750 to follow, as freshman Emily Leese (9.725) and Balser (9.700) contributed career highs of their own in the event.

BARS
The Scarlet Knights saw numerous career and season highs on bars. Balser registered a strong 9.850 to lead the squad, marking a career best for the rookie. Junior Abigail Karolewski recorded a season-high of 9.825 just shy of her career-high mark. Joyner added in a 9.800 with her performance, Huang notched a season-high of 9.725, and Newman recorded a 9.700.

BEAM
In the final rotation on beam, Huang anchored the lineup with a season-high of 9.9 to close out the meet strong for the Scarlet Knights, finishing in a tie for third. Joyner posted a 9.850 with her routine, as Newman recorded a 9.775 and Zanella contributed a 9.700 in the final event of the outing.

ALL-AROUND
In the all-around, Huang recorded a season-best mark of 39.250 to place second in the event. Joyner notched a 39.200 to claim third place. Newman also competed all-around for the Scarlet Knights.

KNIGHT NOTES

Rutgers eclipsed a score over 195 for the second consecutive meet, marking the second-best score of the year at 195.225. Last week, the Scarlet Knights posted a program-record road score of 195.975.
The Scarlet Knights posted eight season high marks, including four career-best performances. Jenna Ferguson (vault), Avery Balser (vault and bars), and Emily Leese (vault) saw career best marks, while Abigail Karolweksi (bars) and Belle Huang (bars, beam, and all-around) boosted the team score with season-high results.
