Marcoux Shines during First Day of Big Ten Match Play Championship

PALM COAST, Fla. – Xavier Marcoux registered two head-to-head victories as Rutgers men's golf wrapped up its first day at the Big Ten Match Play Championship on Friday in Palm Coast, Florida. Marcoux defeated opponents from Wisconsin and Maryland, while Christopher Gotterup registered a tie from the No. 1 position in his matchup with the Terrapins.
The Scarlet Knights fell to Wisconsin, 4-1-0, in the opening round and lost to Maryland, 3-1-1, during their first consolation event. RU faces Nebraska Saturday morning for an 8 a.m. ET shotgun start and will close out the weekend against Ohio State.
Marcoux delivered a 4&3 victory over Wisconsin's Robbie Morway in the opening round and followed with a 4&3 result over Maryland's Dhaivat Pandya. After two rounds of play, Gotterup is tied for second at the championship with 11 birdies while Marcoux carded seven birdies. Oliver Whatley finished the first day with a team-high 20 pars.
Newcomers Rhett Sellers and Luke Wells made their Rutgers' debut on Friday.
