Gianna Glatz Named Big Ten Defensive Player of the Week

PISCATAWAY, N.J. - Rutgers field hockey won its first two games of the season, defeating Indiana and Ohio State at B1G at the Beach. Following the successful start to the season, goalkeeper Gianna Glatz was named Big Ten Defensive Player of the Week. The accolade is Glatz's fifth weekly award from the league.
Glatz played 114 minutes in the cage and allowed just one goal on opening weekend. In the season opener, she helped hold the Hoosiers off the scoreboard for a 3-0 shutout victory. In the second game, she made four saves through an extra session of play, as RU won 2-1 in overtime. For the weekend, Glatz held a goals-against-average of 0.79 and save percentage of .833.
In her last season of action, Glatz was named an All-American and First Team All-Big Ten selection. The Medford, N.J. native notched her 17th career shutout against the Hoosiers. For her career, she holds a goals-against-average of 1.63, which ranks sixth al-time at RU, and has a save percentage of .729.
Rutgers won its initial two Big Ten Conference games for the first time since 2017. The team will return to Virginia Beach next weekend to face Iowa and then Ohio State again.
