PISCATAWAY, N.J. – Rutgers field hockey returns home to host Michigan State this weekend in the first games of the season at the Bauer Track and Field Complex. The games will take place Friday (1 p.m.) and Sunday (12 p.m.). Both games will be streamed on BTN Plus with Dom Savino and Marybeth Freeman on the call.
The Scarlet Knights have opened the season with a 3-1 mark after competing at a neutral site over the first two weekends. RU played four league foes in Virginia Beach, Va. as part of B1G at The Beach, where they twice defeated Ohio State, and also earned a victory over Indiana.
In their last time on the field, Rutgers won 1-0 over Ohio State last Sunday. Freshman forward
Bridy Molyneaux, a local product of Fair Haven, N.J., scored the game-winning goal in the third quarter. For that performance, she was named the Big Ten Freshman of the Week.
Also excelling for the Scarlet Knights is All-American goalkeeper
Gianna Glatz. The Big Ten Defensive Player of the Week after the opening two contests of the season, the Medford, N.J. native has allowed just two goals through four games. She has a 0.51 goals-against-average that is sixth nationally.
Michigan State enters the weekend at 1-2, having played two games at B1G at the Beach, both losses to Maryland and Northwestern. The team then earned a 2-0 win over Indiana in East Lansing last weekend. Isa van der Weij leads the team with two goals. Rutgers trails the all-time series to the Spartans 8-6-1, but have won three straight.
