PISCATAWAY, N.J. – Senior
Taralyn Naslonski netted a hat trick, including the 100th goal of her career, as No. 15 Rutgers women's lacrosse lost to No. 3 Northwestern, 22-10, on Friday afternoon at SHI Stadium. The Wildcats outshot the Scarlet Knights, 42-22, while NU's Izzy Scane set a program record with 10 goals to secure the road win in Piscataway.
Naslonski paced RU with three goals, all in the first half, and also added an assist for a team-high four points. Sophomores
Meghan Ball and
Cassidy Spilis produced two goals apiece, as Ball also added a game-high four caused turnovers in the loss. Junior
Marin Hartshorn and sophomores
Jenna Byrne and
Ashley Campo also contributed goals.
Naslonski snaked past Northwestern's defense in the first two minutes of the game to give Rutgers an early 1-0 lead. NU responded with three consecutive goals, but another goal from Naslonski made it 3-2 Northwestern with 23 minutes left in the first half. After the Wildcats countered with an 8-1 scoring run, Rutgers closed out the final nine minutes of the opening half with a 4-0 run of its own. Spilis' second goal of the game made it an 11-7 margin at halftime.
Northwestern held RU to just three goals in the final 30 minutes of play to earn the ranked road win.
