No. 15 Women's Lacrosse Closes Weekend Series with No. 3 Northwestern

PISCATAWAY, N.J. – No. 15 Rutgers women's lacrosse (3-5) lost to No. 3 Northwestern (7-0), 21-7, to close its two-game weekend series at SHI Stadium. Captains Marin Hartshorn and Taralyn Naslonski produced a team-high four points apiece in the loss to the Wildcats, who entered the weekend as the nation's top scoring offense with a 19.8 goals-per-game mark.
With her two goals and two assists, Naslonski now owns 144 points for her career and is just two points away from cracking the program's top-10 scoring list. The Randolph, New Jersey, native also netted the 100th goal of her career during Friday's game against Northwestern.
Seniors Hannah Hollingsworth and Julia Lytle and sophomore Lauren Ellis all added goals, with Ellis' second-half score marking the first of her collegiate career. Hartshorn produced two goals and two assists and led the team with five draw controls. Rookie Sophia Cardello made the first start of her career in cage for the Scarlet Knights.
Rutgers outshot Northwestern, 8-3, in the first 10 minutes of the game, as Hartshorn found Naslonski at the 26:35 mark in the half to make it just a 2-1 deficit. Naslonski would score again off the pass from freshman Mikayla Dever 13 minutes later, while Hartshorn and Hollingsworth added back-to-back goals at the end of the half to make it a 12-4 game heading into the locker room.
Northwestern used a 9-3 scoring run in the final 30 minutes of the game to secure the win.
