Field Hockey Shuts Out Ohio State

VIRGINIA BEACH, Va. - Rutgers field hockey defeated Ohio State for a second time this season, taking down the Buckeyes by a 1-0 final score on Sunday at B1G at The Beach. Freshman Bridy Molyneaux scored the lone goal of the game for the Scarlet Knights in the third quarter, assisted by Milena Redlingshoefer. Gianna Glatz made seven saves to earn her second shutout of the season.

"Today was another hard-fought win with some moments of real quality," head coach Meredith Civico said. "I'm really proud of how the whole team came together to help us get a positive result and put us in a great position for our upcoming games against Michigan State."

Rutgers' defense held strong as Ohio State put the pressure on in the opening quarter. OSU had five shots and four penalty corners in the initial frame, but the backline held strong.

RU started to gather the momentum, and were rewarded with a goal in early in the third quarter. On RU's first and ultimately only penalty corner of the game, Milena Redlingshoefer sent the ball towards the net, and Molyneaux deflected it into from the right post. As the Scarlet Knights' defense held strong, that would be the games only goal.

Rutgers returns home for their next contest, with the home opener next Friday. The Scarlet Knights will host the Spartans for a pair of games next weekend.
