Mar 07 | Men's Basketball
PISCATAWAY, N.J. - Rutgers men's basketball completed its regular season in the nation's top conference with a 10 conference wins. The Scarlet Knights finished the 2020-21 campaign tied with Wisconsin for sixth place in the final conference standings.
After tiebreakers, Rutgers earned the No. 7 seed in the Big Ten Tournament, which will be held this upcoming week in Lucas Oil Stadium in Indianapolis. RU will face No. 10 seed Indiana on Thursday at 6:30 p.m. on BTN, with Brandon Gaudin and Shon Morris on the call.
Rutgers defeated Indiana in two prior matchups this season, winning at Assembly Hall on January 24 and then earning a victory at The RAC on February 24.
The winner of that matchup will face No. 2 seed Illinois. Rutgers defeated Illinois 91-88 in the team's lone meeting on December 20 at The RAC.
Rutgers earns an opening-round bye in the conference tournament for the second straight season. Prior to last season, RU had not earned an opening round bye since the 1995 Atlantic 10 Championship. The No. 7 seed represents the highest that RU has ever been seeded in a Big Ten Tournament. Rutgers last earned a No. 7 seed in a conference tournament in 2014, in the American Athletic Conference Tournament. It was the team's second straight season finishing in the top half of the league's standings after earning the eighth seed last season.
Rutgers won double-digit conference games for the second consecutive season, marking the first time with back-to-back double-digit conference win seasons since the 1989-90 and 1990-91 campaigns. Rutgers has won 21 Big Ten games over the past two seasons after winning 16 combined in its first five years as a league member.
BTN will televise the first 10 games of the tournament (first round through quarterfinals), with the semifinals and championship game to be broadcast on CBS Sports for the 24th consecutive year. All BTN on-air games can be streamed via the web, smartphones, tablets and connected devices through the FOX Sports App, while the CBS Sports broadcasts will also be available to stream live on Paramount+.
