Track And Field Enjoys Good Day At Rutgers Tri-Meet

Abrielle, Campbell and Van Note lead squad, setting a trio of school records
PISCATAWAY, N.J. – Rutgers track and field was led by a trio of school record performers as Ka'Leila Abrille (pole vault), Courteney Campbell (high jump) and Jasmine Van Note (shot put) etched their names in the RU record books Saturday at the Rutgers B1G Tri-Meet. The Scarlet Knights hosted conference opponents Maryland and Penn State at the Bauer Track and Field Complex in two years.
"It was great to get the chance to compete at home in front of family and friends," said head coach Bobby Farrell. "We have a big stretch of competitions coming up and this was a great opportunity to take a week off from travel and just work on things."
On an afternoon where the Scarlet Knights turned in several top times and distances, three school records highlighted the day's performances. The current school record holders in their respective indoor events, Abrille, Campbell and Van Note added the outdoor records to their resumes.
Abrille finished second in the pole vault, clearing the bar at 3.65m (11' 11.75"), setting a Rutgers record. Campbell tied for first in the high jump, matching the school record height of 1.79m (5' 10.5"), while Van Note posted a throw of 15.26m (50' 0.75") to finish second and claim the school record.
The Scarlet Knights earned the top spot in 17 individual events. On the men's side, Nadale Buntin won the 100-meter in 10.90, while Al-Tariq Dunson was first in the 110-meter hurdles with a time of 14.49. In the 400-meter hurdles, Edwyn Pierre ran a first-place time of 53.59 and Billy Hill won the 800-meter in 1:52.37.
The women's squad claimed victories in the 100-meter with Dennisha Page leading a heat of Scarlet Knights with a time of 12.13. Alexandria Yarbrough won a pair of races, taking first in the 200-meter in 25.16 and the 400-meter in 56. 88. Kiera Nealon posted a victory in the 800-meter in 2:15.79, while Brooke Riedy led the 1,500-meter in 4:38.43. Olympia Martin placed first in the 3,000-meter with a time of 9:32.48.
The men's long jump was won by A'nan Bridgett with a leap of 7.55m (24' 9.25") and Buntin picked up his second victory of the afternoon, taking first in the triple jump with a distance of 14.69m (48' 2.5"). Nico Morales finished first in the pole vault, clearing a height of 4.76m (15' 7.25"), while Steven Coponi was first in the javelin with a throw of 66.43m (217' 11"). Kyle Lipscomb won the men's hammer throw with a mark of 52.08m (170' 10") and Alexa Gardner placed first in the women's javelin with a distance of 44.63m (146' 5").
The Scarlet Knights return to action on April 16 for the Husker Big Ten Invitational held in Prairie View, Texas.
