PISCATAWAY, N.J. – No. 6 Rutgers field hockey concludes regular season action this weekend on the road. The Scarlet Knights travel south for a pair of games against No. 12 Maryland on Thursday (6 p.m.) and Saturday (noon). Both games will stream on BTN Plus.
The games represent the final two contests of the regular season, with just Thursday's game counting towards the conference standings. RU enters the weekend tied for second place with Iowa at 5-2 in conference play. The Hawkeyes, who face Northwestern at 4 p.m. Thursday, hold the head-to-head tiebreaker with Rutgers.
Rutgers enters the game on a four-game winning streak, having swept weekend matchups against top-10 teams in back-to-back weekends. The Scarlet Knights shut out No. 9 Penn State twice (3-0 and 1-0) and earned a pair of one-goal victories over No. 4 Northwestern (2-1 and 3-2 in overtime). The team has eight top-10 wins over the past three seasons.
Liz Romano led the team with two goals in the wins over the Wildcats and Tuesday was named the Big Ten Defensive Player of the Week. She now shares the team lead in goals (four) with
Milena Redlingshoefer, while Redlingshoefer has added five assists for a team-high 13 points.
Katie Larmour, who scored the overtime winner on Sunday, has two goals and six assists for 10 points, second on the team. On the defensive end,
Gianna Glatz ranks fourth nationally in goals-against-average (0.58) and save percentage (.863).
The Scarlet Knights jumped up four spots in this week's NFHCA Coaches Poll ranking. The team's ranking is the highest in the recorded modern history of the NFHCA poll.
Maryland enters the weekend series at 6-6 overall and 4-3 in conference play. The Terps dropped a weekend series to No. 5 Michigan last weekend, and split with No. 2 Iowa the weekend prior. Riley Donnelly leads the team with 13 points (five goals and three assists), while Bibi Donraadt has 12 points (four goals, four assists). In goal, Noelle Frost has a 2.10 goals-against-average and .761 save percentage. The Terps went 17-4 in 2019, advancing to the NCAA Quarterfinals.
