PISCATAWAY, N.J. – Senior captain Taralyn Naslonski was named Big Ten Offensive Player of the Week, announced Tuesday by the conference office. The recognition comes after Naslonski combined for nine points on six goals and three assists to help Rutgers women's lacrosse to their first-ever victories over No. 11 Maryland and No. 13 Penn State over the weekend.
Naslonski produced two goals, two assists and three draw controls in the Scarlet Knights' 17-16 victory over Penn State on Thursday, and followed with five points on four goals and an assist in the 16-14 win over Maryland on Sunday.
The Randolph, New Jersey, native finished the regular season with a team-high 41 points on 26 goals and 15 assists to go along with seven draw controls, six ground balls and two caused turnovers in 12 games played. One of the top scorers in program history, Naslonski is currently seventh on the all-time points list at Rutgers with 160.
Rutgers moved up in several national polls on Monday, as it is ranked No. 16 in the latest IWLCA Coaches Poll. The Scarlet Knights are also ranked No. 17 by US Lacrosse Magazine and No 19 by Inside Lacrosse Magazine, as RU has now been ranked for the ninth consecutive week under second-year head coach Melissa Lehman, who has led the program to its most Big Ten Conference victories in a season since Rutgers joined in 2015.
All seven Big Ten teams are ranked in the latest coaches poll, which includes No. 2 Northwestern, No. 14 Maryland, No. 15 Johns Hopkins, No. 16 Rutgers, No. 18 Penn State, No. 22 Ohio State and No. 23 Michigan.
Rutgers gets a week off from play before it opens the Big Ten Tournament from April 29-May 2 in University Park, Pa.
