No. 18 Michigan Comes From Behind To Take Season Finale Win Away From Softball

ANN ARBOR, Mich. – Rutgers softball took a lead against No.18 Michigan on Sunday off a Gabrielle Callaway home run and sent down the hot hitting Wolverines down in order three times, but the hosts battled back for a 2-1 victory to spoil the Scarlet Knights 2021 season finale.

- Callaway swung for her team-leading fifth home run of the season and 12th of her career to give Rutgers its first lead of the series against the Wolverines on a solo blast to center.
- Sophomore Ashley Hitchcock tossed her seventh complete game of the year logging four strikeouts.

- The Scarlet Knights, who were limited to one hit on Saturday, opened Sunday's contest with Payton Lincavage taking her second pitch down the leftf-field line.
- Callaway put Rutgers onto the scoreboard with a two-out solo shot over the fence in center for a 1-0 lead.
- The Wolverines, who went down in order in the second and third, tied the ballgame in the fourth. Lou Allan led off with a single to center and was replaced at first base by pinch-runner Audrey LeClair. LeClair stole second as Taylor Bump went down swinging and reached third avoiding the tag on a rundown on Hannah Carson's grounder to short. LeClair then scored off a sacrifice fly to center by Julia Jimenez.
- Graduate student Kiana Workman managed a long ball to the center-field warning track that fell just short of the fence to put the Scarlet Knights back in front in the top of the sixth.
- The Wolverines, however, managed to go deep in the bottom of the inning to take the lead. Allan led off taking a 2-2 count over the center-field wall.

- Callaway finished the 2021 season leading Rutgers in hits (37), home runs (5) and total bases (59) and tied with freshman Kayla Bock for the team lead in doubles (7) and Lincavage in RBIs (17).
- Lincavage accumulated a team-leading 22 runs in 2021 and was second in hits (36) and third in doubles (5) and home runs (3).
- Anyssa Iliopoulos finishes her career with 209 appearances in a Scarlet Knight uniform becoming only the 10th Scarlet Knight since 2006 to appear in more than 200 games. She also lands fourth on the all-time Rutgers home run leaders list with 26 career dingers.
