
Char Named 2021 Arthur Ashe Jr. Sports Scholar

PISCATAWAY, N.J. – 2021 graduate Lori Char of Rutgers women's golf was selected as a 2021 Arthur Ashe Jr. Sports Scholar, announced by Diverse: Issues in Higher Education magazine.
As the name denotes, the annual Ashe edition is a part of the publication's quarter-century legacy of recognizing outstanding minority young men and women who have distinguished themselves in their academic and athletic pursuits. In addition to their athletic ability, students named 2021 Arthur Ashe Jr. Sports Scholars must maintain a cumulative grade-point average of at least 3.5, be at least a sophomore academically, and be active on their campuses or in their communities.
A standout both on the course and in the classroom, Char graduated this past spring with her bachelor's in communication after she posted a 3.963 cumulative GPA. The Waianae, Hawaii, native finished her collegiate career as a three-time Academic All-Big Ten selection, a two-time Big Ten Distinguished Scholar and a two-time Women's Golf Coaches Association (WGCA) Division I All-America Scholar
Char appeared in 19 tournaments with 53 rounds played during her collegiate career, which included two starts at the Big Ten Conference Championship in 2018 and 2019. As a rookie in 2017-18, Char produced two top-20 individual finishes at Nittany Lion Invitational and the Idle Hour Intercollegiate.
