PISCATAWAY, N.J. – Sophomore Becci Fluchel and freshman Kassidy Banks were named Big Ten Players of the Week, the league announced Tuesday. Fluchel was tabbed the Big Ten Defensive Player of the Week, while Banks earned Big Ten Freshman of the Week accolades.
The duo helped guide Rutgers to two victories on the week, capping nonconference with a 4-0 shutout of Drexel and opening conference play with a 2-1 win over then-No. 8 Penn State. Their efforts pushed the Scarlet Knights to a record of 6-2-0 overall and up to No. 9 in the national rankings.

Fluchel scored the game winner against the Nittany Lions, converting on a penalty kick for her first career goal. The midfielder played the full 90 minutes in the Big Ten opener, aiding the team in holding PSU to just four total shots on goal.
The Pittstown, New Jersey, native has posted three points on the year, also contributing an assist in 2021. It marks the first conference weekly award of her career. Fluchel was also named to the Top Drawer Soccer Team of the Week, as an honorable mention selection.

Banks has started seven of eight games in her first season as a Scarlet Knight. The defender played the full 90 minutes in the 2-1 victory over Penn State, extending the program's streak to 36 consecutive opponents held to single-digit shots on goal dating back to 2019.
The Staten Island, New York, native also contributed to RU's fourth shutout of the year in the 4-0 victory over Drexel. Banks and team held the Dragons to just five shots on goal. It marks the first weekly award of her career.
Rutgers has claimed five conference weekly awards this season. The Scarlet Knights have earned Big Ten Co-Offensive Player of the Week accolades for Frankie Tagliafferri, Freshman of the Week recognition for Riley Tiernan (Aug 31), and Defensive Player of the Week honors for Gabby Provenzano (Sept. 7).
RU remains home to continue conference play, hosting Michigan on Thursday, Sept. 23. Match time is set for 6 p.m. ET live on Big Ten Network.
