PISCATAWAY, N.J. – The Rutgers men's soccer team (6-2-5, 2-1-2) earned a 2-0 shutout win over Stony Brook (4-8, 2-4) on Wednesday night under the lights at Yurcak Field. Pablo Avila and MD Myers found the back of the net for the Scarlet Knights in the victory while freshman goalkeeper Ciaran Dalton made four saves for his second clean sheet of the season.
The Rutgers offense got going in the ninth minute with a goal from Avila off a ball from Colin Beasley. The score marked his fourth of the season and second in consecutive games.
Stony Brook got their own opportunity in the 24th minute with a penalty kick, but Dalton came up with a huge save to keep a slate clean in the first half.
Coming out of the locker room, the Scarlet Knights continued to make chances for themselves on offense, outshooting the Seawolves 8-3 in the second half.
With two minutes left to play, Myers drew a foul in the opponent's box and went on to score his third penalty goal of the fall.
Rutgers held onto the lead for the remainder of the matchup to come away with their second shutout and sixth win of the season, 2-0.
The team also celebrated some of their favorite professors at Wednesday night's game, welcoming them on the field pregame and honoring them at halftime.

Game Notes
- Myers' penalty goal marks his 11th of the season, making him the only player in the Big Ten with double-digit scores. He leads the runner up in the statistics by five tallies. With 25 points, he is also the only player in the conference with 20+ points, leading second place by 13 points.
- Through 13 games this campaign, Myers has in eight contests, including the last four. He has also recorded points in nine of 13 outings.
- Myers has now scored on three penalty goals on four attempts this campaign.
- Avila is on a hot streak of his own, scoring in the last two games. He ranks third on the team with four goals and 12 points.
- With 30 goals and 195 shots, RU tops the league in both categories.
- Dalton continues to make waves as a freshman recording his second shutout of the season and fourth win. He leads the goalkeeper group with 26 total stops of 84 shots faced and a 1.25 goals-against average.
- Through 13 games, the Scarlet Knights have seen 11 unique goal scorers on 30 goals for 87 points. Myers (11), Temple (5), Avila (4) and Bouregy (3) all have multiple goals.
- Sophomore defender Aidan Flynn made his first career start on Wednesday night, playing center back. Beasley, a junior forward, also made his first start of the season and third of his career as he also made two starts as a freshman.
- In addition to the start, Beasley recorded his first assist to earn his first points of the slate.
- 15 Scarlet Knights saw the pitch on Friday night. Goalkeeper Ciaran Dalton in addition to Joey Zalinsky, Cole Sotack, Chirs Tiao, Matthew Acosta and Flynn played the entire 90 minutes.
- The Scarlet Knights only have one nonconference matchup left, in addition to three upcoming Big Ten contests. RU will welcome soon-to-be league rival UCLA to Yurcak on Saturday, Oct. 29 to cap the regular season.
Looking Ahead
Rutgers will get back to Big Ten play as the team travels to Michigan State on Sunday, Oct. 16 for a 2 p.m. game.
