Emily Mason leads the Scarlet Knights first postseason honors with a First Team award on defense
ROSEMONT, Ill. – No. 20 Rutgers women’s soccer has placed six Scarlet Knights on the 2022 Big Ten Women’s Soccer All-Conference Awards.
Sophomore Emily Mason earns her first All-Conference nod with a spot on the First Team for defenders. Junior Sara Brocious is Second Team for midfielders. Juniors Sam Kroeger and Allison Lowrey, along with sophomore Riley Tiernan, have been named Third Team All-Big Ten for forwards, and junior Emma Misal earns a spot on the Third Team for defenders.

Emily Mason
Sophomore Back | Flemington, N.J.
Mason has turned in 14 matches with the full 90 minutes played, contributing to eight shutouts on the Scarlet Knight defense. The 5-foot-10 defender has also chipped in on the attack, scoring her first collegiate goal in a 7-0 win against Temple on Sept. 1 and then scoring her first collegiate brace in a 3-0 win at Purdue on Oct. 2. She also added an important assist in the 1-1 draw at then-No. 8 Northwestern on Sept. 29.
Sara Brocious
Junior Midfielder | Voorhees, N.J.
Brocious, a first-time All-Big Ten honoree, has been consistently productive out of the central attacking midfield position, contributing 16 points on five goals and six assists during the 2022 regular season. She scored game-winning goals in the victories over UNLV and Maryland, with the latter being the lone goal in a 1-0 victory on Sept. 25. Brocious has put in the 90-minute effort in 15 matches this fall. Her six assists are ranked sixth in the Big Ten heading into the postseason.

Sam Kroeger
Junior Forward | West Milford, N.J.
Kroeger, another first-time All-Big Ten pick, has been an offensive leader throughout the season with 18 points on seven goals and four assists. Her seven goals rank seventh in the Big Ten. Four of her goals have gone down as game-winners, including three out of four consecutive matches from Sept. 1-11. Notably, her 85th-minute game-winner capped three unanswered goals by Rutgers to erase a 2-0 deficit and beat LSU on Sept. 11 at Yurcak Field. She was named the Big Ten Offensive Player of the Week and to the College Soccer News National Team of the Week on Sept. 6.
Allison Lowrey
Junior Forward | Bridgewater, N.J.
Lowrey scored the first goal of 2022 for Rutgers, the lone goal and game-winner in the 1-0 season opening win at New Mexico, and she has been near the top of the Scarlet Knights’ scoring ledger ever since and seventh in the conference with her seven goals. Now with 18 points on seven goals and four assists, the first-time All-Big Ten selection added another two game-winners in clutch situations – the second goal in a 2-1 win over Buffalo and the opening tally in the 2-0 victory over then-No. 21 Ohio State. She was named the season’s first Big Ten Offensive Player of the Week after scoring six points through the first two matches.

Riley Tiernan
Sophomore Forward | Voorhees, N.J.
Tiernan earns her second All-Big Ten honor after making the First Team as a freshman. She has 12 points on three goals and six assists, with two of the goals coming in the final four matches of the regular season. Her six assists rank sixth in the Big Ten at the end of the regular season. Just a sophomore, Tiernan has now passed out 19 assists in her career to rank eighth all-time at Rutgers, needing just four more to break into the top-five in program history.
Emma Misal
Junior Back | Mechanicsburg, Pa.
Misal graces the All-Big Ten list for the first time and also earns the program’s Big Ten Sportsmanship Award, working through an early-season injury to return to the field and contribute to five Scarlet Knight shutouts in her 11 matches. Misal is back at full strength heading into the postseason with a pair of 90-minute efforts on the backline during the final two matches of the regular season. She has been part of a defense that has allowed six or fewer shots on goal in 17 of 18 matches and three or less in 10 games.

The Scarlet Knights are heading to the 2022 Big Ten Tournament quarterfinals as the No. 7 seed at No. 2 Northwestern on Sun., Oct. 30 at 1 p.m. ET (noon CT).
