The 5 Things to Know
- Makenna Marisa tallied 31 points for her fourth 30-point game of the season in a road loss at Purdue last time out. She added seven rebounds and seven assists.
- With four 30-point games, Marisa has the most by a PSU player since Teniya Page's four in 2016-17.
- Marisa ranks sixth in the nation averaging 22.7 points per game and averages 23.6 points per contest against Big Ten opponents.
- Penn State recorded 16 steals at Purdue, its most in a Big Ten game since February 10, 2013 against Michigan State (17).
- The Lady Lions rank second in the Big Ten in steals per game (9.9) and total steals (227).
- Shay Hagans and Leilani Kapinus are tied second in the conference with 44 total steals and sit third in the league averaging 1.91 steals per game.
Rutgers has the best scoring defense in the Big Ten at 58.7 points allowed per game, trying to finish the season leading that conference category for a third consecutive year. Over the past four games, Rutgers has faced three of the seven programs in the country to average more than 80.0 points per game (Maryland, Nebraska, and Ohio State) and held them an average of 21 points under their scoring averages.
Â
Osh Brown, a graduate transfer from Ball State now with 1,726 career points, is the NCAA Division I active career leader in rebounds with 1,325 and in double-doubles with 57. Brown grabbed her first Rutgers double-double in grand fashion in the Paradise Jam opener with a 20-point, 20-rebound performance against DePaul, Rutgers' first 20-20 since Betnijah Laney's in 2014 against UNC. She added her eighth this season with 13 and 11 at Nebraska.
Brown is closing in on the top 30 on the NCAA career rebounding chart (TCU's Sandora Irvin is 30th at 1,370 rebounds). The Big Ten record books require players to complete two seasons in the conference to qualify, so while Brown doesn't appear on the Big Ten historical charts, she is the third player to compete for any length of time at a Big Ten school who has grabbed 1,300 rebounds — Iowa's Megan Gustafson is the conference record holder/16th in NCAA history with 1,460 rebounds (2016-19), while Ohio State's Jantel Lavender had 1,422 rebounds from 2008-11 (20th in NCAA history).

Twelve different Scarlet Knights have tied or led Rutgers in scoring in a game this season, and nine games featured at least 10 players scoring points. With eight returners (three upperclassmen) and eight newcomers, Rutgers entered the new season with 20% of last year's scoring and 11% of last season's assists.
