Paul Mulcahy Named All-Met Player of the Week

NEW YORK (Feb. 8, 2022) --- Paul Mulcahy of Rutgers in Division I, and Quran Dublin of York and Ronnie Silva of Adelphi as co-winners in Divisions II/III, have been named Men's Players of the Week by the Met Basketball Writers Association.
The designations, for games played Jan. 31-Feb. 6, are unique in that they encompass players from 69 Met area schools across Divisions I, II and III.
It is the second time this season that Silva has been selected MBWA Player of the Week, having previously been honored on Jan. 11.
A 6-6 junior guard from Bayonne, NJ, Mulcahy --- displaying prowess in scoring, rebounding and dishing out assists --- averaged 23.0 points, 4.5 rebounds and 9.5 assists in a 1-1 week for the Scarlet Knights (13-9), who lost in overtime at Northwestern 79-78 and then upended No. 13-ranked Michigan State 84-63 at home in New Jersey.
Mulcahy began his week in career-high fashion by pouring in 31 points at Northwestern, playing a career-high 44 minutes and adding seven rebounds along with seven assists. He notched a career-high 10 field goals on just 13 shots (76.9%), was 9-of-11 (81.8%) from the free throw line and (2-of-3) from 3-point range. He led RU in a 24-point comeback, forcing the game into overtime.
Mulcahy next helped the Scarlet Knights record their highest margin of victory (21 points) over a ranked opponent in school history. He registered his first-ever double-double against Michigan State, producing 15 points on 6-of-9 shooting along with a career-high 12 assists. He added four rebounds, had one steal, just two turnovers and knocked in a huge 3-pointer late in the second half. Mulcahy's 12 assists were the most in a regulation game for RU since Dec. 30, 1997. His stat line read Plus-29 for his 30 minutes on the floor.
Mulcahy is averaging 18.9 points and 7.0 assists in his last three games dating back to a 63-61 victory on Jan. 29 at Nebraska. In the game against Northwestern, he became the first Rutgers player to score over 31 points, seven assists and seven rebounds in a game since Corey Sanders in 2016.
Mulcahy leads the Big Ten is assists during conference play (78) and assists-per-game (6.50) by a large margin. The was Mulcahy's first-ever All-Metropolitan Player of the Week honor.
