CHERRY HILL, N.J. – No. 10 Rutgers rowing opened the 2022 season on the Cooper River at the Doc Hosea Invitational on Sunday morning. The Scarlet Knights won five heats before the finals races were canceled due to high winds on the river. Overall, they had seven boats qualified to race in the grand finals of the regatta before the cancelation.
"It was great to get the 2022 season officially underway today and great to see this year's team in action on the race course," said head coach
Justin Price. "The day provided a good challenge and a valuable learning opportunity on the road to Big Tens."

The Scarlet Knights' Varsity 8 boat set the tone for a fast morning with a win in its heat in 6:31.52, ahead of Tulsa, Northeastern, Georgetown, Bucknell, and Drexel.

Rutgers' 2
nd Varsity 8 followed with a win in its heat in 6:45.00, a clear 16 seconds of the next boat from Northeastern and way ahead of Bucknell, Rhode Island, Dartmouth, and Georgetown.

The Varsity 4 followed with a victory in the morning heat in 7:43.95 against boats from Northeastern, Drexel, Tulsa, and Rhode Island.

The 2
nd Varsity 4 boat took first in its heat in 7:47.06 over No. 13 Syracuse, Drexel, Cornell, and Temple. The 3
rd Varsity 4a boat was second in their heat in 7:42.24 and had a grand final qualifying time. RU's 3
rd Varsity 4b placed third in their heat.

Rutgers entered three novice boats into the 3
rd Varsity 8 event. The Scarlet Knights' Novice 8 finished first in its heat in 6:58.69 over UPenn, Cornell, and Temple. The 2
nd Novice 8a boat finished third in a previous heat in 7:16.11 and had a grand final qualifying time. 2
nd Novice 8b placed fourth in its heat in 7:19.81.
Navy, UPenn, Notre Dame, Northeastern, and Tulsa are all receiving votes in the March 23 Pocock CRCA National Top 20 Poll.Â
The Scarlet Knights return to the water for the Big Ten Invitational on April 15-16 in Sarasota, Florida.
