No. 13 Women’s Lacrosse Hosts San Diego State Saturday

PISCATAWAY, N.J. – No. 13 Rutgers women's lacrosse (11-3, 2-2) continues another three-game homestand when it hosts San Diego State (5-7) on Saturday at SHI Stadium. First draw is set for 5 p.m. ET and will stream via Big Ten Plus. WRSU (88.7) FM will also have the radio broadcast.
Admission to all 2022 home games is free. Parking for 2022 women's lacrosse home games is also free, but visitors must register their vehicle with the University through this link. Visitors only need to register their vehicle once for the entire season. Parking for 2022 home games is in the Scarlet Lot outside the West entrance of SHI Stadium.
Last Time Out
RU used a late scoring run to defeat Wagner, 13-11, on Wednesday night in Piscataway. Tied 9-9 with a minute to play in the third quarter, the Scarlet Knights fired off four consecutive goals to secure their 11th win of the season - the most for the program since the 2010 campaign.
Junior captain Cassidy Spilis produced a season-high seven points on six goals and an assist, while graduate student Stephanie Kelly netted four goals in the win. Ashley Campo dished out a team-best three assists for four points. Sophomore Kate Carolonza added two crucial goals in the second half to help contribute to the out-of-conference win.
RU outshot the Seahawks, 35-21, won the battle on the draw, 18-9, and forced the visitor into 20 turnovers, but Wagner was able to stick around thanks to its 4-for-5 performance on free-position attempts. Junior defenders Meghan Ball and Jessica Beneducci and sophomore Ashley Moynahan each caused two turnovers. Plugged into the game in the second half, rookie Caleigh Forti notched her second win of her career with two saves.

Despite its loss last week, Rutgers moved up two spots to No. 13 in the latest ILWomen/IWLCA Coaches Poll and remained at No. 14 in the Nike/USA Lacrosse Magazine Top 20. Five Big Ten programs remained in the coaches poll – No. 3 Northwestern, No. 8 Maryland, No. 13 Rutgers, No. 19 Michigan and No. 25 Johns Hopkins. Ohio State also received votes in the poll this week.
Big Ten Tournament Set for Piscataway May 6-8
Tickets for the 2022 Big Ten Women's Lacrosse Tournament, set for May 6-8 at SHI Stadium in Piscataway, New Jersey, are now on sale. The semifinals begin on Friday, May 6 at 5:30 p.m. ET, followed by the championship game on Sunday at noon.
Ball Fills Up the Stat Sheet
Junior Meghan Ball has been one of the top defenders in the country this season. The midseason All-American ranks first in the Big Ten and fifth nationally with 2.57 caused turnovers per game, is 11th in the country with 3.14 ground balls per game and is third in the conference with 5.21 draw controls per contest. Ball leads Rutgers with 73 draw controls, 44 ground balls and 36 caused turnovers this season.
Spilis Hits 50 Goals
Junior Cassidy Spilis scored her 50th goal of the season this Wednesday against Wagner. Spilis netted a season-high six goals in the win over the Seahawks to reach the half century mark, becoming just the sixth Scarlet Knight to produce 50 or more goals in a season. She needs 11 goals to secure the program's all-time single-season goal record.

Naslonski All-Time Scoring Leader
Graduate student Taralyn Naslonski became the program's all-time scoring leader last week at No. 3 Northwestern. Naslonski now owns 235 career points on 165 goals and 70 assists. Naslonski needs nine goals to pass Heather Jones (1991-94) for first on the program's all-time goals list and needs 14 helpers to pass Denise Reed (1987-90) for the program's all-time assists lead.
Kelly going for Single-Season Assist Record
Graduate student Stephanie Kelly has dished out 32 assists this season to lead the Big Ten and sit sixth nationally in the category. Kelly is second on the team with 54 points with her 32 helpers and 22 goals. After her standout career at St Joseph's, Kelly owns 291 points on 149 goals and 142 assists. Her 291 points are ninth amongst active players in the country. Kelly needs just three assists to pass Danielle Mascera (2012) for the single-season assist record with 35 helpers.
Scouting San Diego State
In the midst of a five-game road swing, the Aztecs are 5-7 this season and suffered a 20-8 loss at No. 3 Northwestern last weekend in their last time out. SDSU owns wins over Cal, Columbia, Marquette, Oregon and Quinnipiac this season.
Deanna Balsama leads the team with 59 points on 52 goals and seven assists this season. Bailey Brown has secured a team-high 50 draw controls, while former Scarlet Knight Julia Lytle leads the Aztecs with 19 caused turnovers. Lytle played for Rutgers from 2018-21.
This will be the first meeting between the two programs.
