SARASOTA, Fla. – No. 16 Rutgers rowing won a pair of C/D semifinal races on Saturday at the NCAA Championships at Nathan Benderson Park. The Varsity 8 and 2nd Varsity 8 both won their races to qualify for Sunday's C Finals, which determine national places 13-18, while the Varsity 4 moves to the Petite Final on Sunday for places 7-12.
The Varsity 8 boat turned in a time of 6:23.961 to win its C/D semifinal by nearly two seconds over boats from No. 14 Duke and No. 18 USC.
The 2nd Varsity 8 led from start to finish and placed first in their C/D semifinal in 6:44.097, four seconds ahead of the field including No. 15 Oregon State and No. 18 USC.
Racing in the NCAA Championships A/B semifinal for the third consecutive season, the Varsity 4 finished fifth with a time of 7:24.158 and will move to the Petite Final on Sunday.
