Rall's 6th Career Big Ten Weekly Award
PISCATAWAY, N.J. – Rutgers men's lacrosse saw Ethan Rall named the Big Ten Defensive Player of the Week on Tuesday. The accolade marks the fifth Big Ten weekly award this season for the Scarlet Knights, and second this season (sixth career) for Rall.
The Islip, N.Y. native made an impact all over the field on Friday night, helping RU to a 13-12, overtime win over No. 16 Michigan. The long-stick midfielder was credited with a team-high seven ground balls and season-high four caused turnovers in the victory. Rall's last ground ball of the night came at a crucial time, as he collected the ground ball off the initial overtime faceoff to give the home team possession to start overtime, where RU would ultimately score the winning tally to end the sudden-death session.
Rall, who was named a Second Team Midseason All-American by Inside Lacrosse media voting, leads the team with 15 caused turnovers on the year, and is second on the squad with 38 ground balls. For his career, he has caused 79 turnovers. He is just five shy of Nick Contino's program record of 84.
Rall and the Scarlet Knights are ranked 9th nationally in this week's media poll and will host No. 4 Maryland on Sunday night in a nationally televised game on Big Ten Network. The team is 12th in the RPI, and will face team's ranked 5th (Maryland) and 6th (Penn State) in the RPI to close out the regular season schedule as the team looks to position themselves ahead of the postseason.
