INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. – No. 16 Rutgers rowing won four medals at the Big Ten Championships on Sunday at Eagle Creek Park, led by a gold medal performance by the 3rd Varsity 4. The Scarlet Knights combined for a fourth-place team finish behind No. 11 Michigan, No. 13 Ohio State, and No. 15 Indiana.
Rutgers scored 131 points behind the 3V4's gold, a silver from the 2nd Varsity 4, and bronze medals in the Varsity 4 and 2nd Varsity 8. The gold was the 3rd Varsity 4's best finish at Big Tens, while the 2nd Varsity 4 also posted its best conference finish with a silver.

The 3rd Varsity 4 made a statement early in their race by claiming the lead by the 1,000-meter mark, holding off the field for an open-water victory in the Big Ten Championships. The boat was coxswained by
Megan Cherichello, stroked by
Vanessa Karayiannis, followed by
Karlie Johnson,
Taylor Ralston, and
Jana Tarabic.
The 2nd Varsity 4 followed with a similar intensity in setting a fast pace with a high stroke rate. The Scarlet Knights held a lead at 1,000 meters and were bow ball to bow ball with Ohio State at 1,500 before the Buckeyes edged out a 3.5-second win at the finish line. CoxswainÂ

Libby Snyder has been named the Rutgers recipient of the Big Ten Sportsmanship Award.
The field for the 2023 NCAA DI rowing championships will be announced Tuesday, May 16Â on NCAA.com. The championship finals are May 26-28Â on the Cooper River in Cherry Hill, New Jersey, featuring Varsity 8, 2nd Varsity 8, and Varsity 4 boats.
