Women’s Soccer Concedes Late in 1-1 Draw at NC State

RALEIGH, N.C. – Rutgers women's soccer (1-1-1) left Dail Field with a 1-1 draw on Thursday evening after NC State (1-0-2) equalized with just 2:25 left in the contest. The Wolfpack, receiving votes in the United Soccer Coaches Top 25 Poll and a 2022 NCAA Tournament participant, hosted 1,462 fans on Thursday.

The Scarlet Knights return home to host 2022 NEC Tournament champions FDU on Mon., Aug. 28 at 5 p.m. in a Yurcak Field doubleheader, preceding the men's soccer match against St. John's at 7:30 p.m.

SCORING SUMMARY
- Allison Lynch started the early goal in the 6th minute by finding dribbling space near midfield and playing a brilliant ball down the right sideline to Sara Brocious, who in turn had plenty of space to play a sharp and low cross to Allison Lowrey. The resulting shot was a one-time screamer by Allison Lowrey from near the penalty spot to the upper-right 90 for the 1-0 lead. Lynch and Brocious were both credited with assists on the score.
- The Wolfpack leveled on a late, 88th minute goal when a set piece was played straight into the six-yard box, took a deflection, and skirted into goal.
- The Rutgers defense limited chances following the early, go-ahead goal. NC State managed its first shot on goal in the 33rd on an attempt that was blocked, resulting in an easy grab for Rutgers goalkeeper Olivia Bodmer.
- Rutgers goalkeeper Olivia Bodmer made a quick-twitch save off a header right in front of net following a Wolfpack corner kick in the 66th.
- Emily Mason missed a late game-winner by a foot after directing a header off a set piece just wide of net in the 89th.
- Rutgers led in shots attempts, 13-11, and in shots on goal, 4-3, but the Scarlet Knights did not place a shot on target in the second half.
- RU's shots on net came from Lowrey (2), Riley Tiernan, and Gia Vicari.
- Kassidy Banks and Allison Lynch played the full 90 minutes on the pitch.
- Rutgers did not take a corner kick in the draw, while NC State attempted four.
