PISCATAWAY, N.J. – Rutgers women's swimming and diving captured both Big Ten Swimmer and Diver of the Week honors following the Scarlet Knights' appearance at the Minnesota Invitational and Rutgers Diving Invitational.
Graduate student
Molly Urkiel was named the Big Ten Swimmer of the Week after setting two Rutgers school records and collecting three NCAA B cuts. Senior
Holly Prasanto earned the conference's weekly honor for a second time this season after two top 10 program scores and a 3M crown.
Urkiel's first record of the weekend was in the 400 IM where she took third in the A final with a NCAA B cut of 4:13.49. She broke the former mark of 4:13.85 set by 10 years ago by Morgan Pfaff in 2014. Urkiel's previous best was 4:16.73 recorded at last year's Big Ten Championships marking a 3.24-second time drop. On the final day, Urkiel broke the 200 breast record. The Scarlet Knight took fourth in the A final with a new Rutgers record and NCAA B cut of 2:10.90. She bested the previous record of 2:11.02 set by Rachel Stoddard in 2016 and dropped 1.75 seconds off her previous PR set in at the Minnesota Invite in 2021. Urkiel collected another top time, and NCAA B cut in her 100-breast appearance. Taking fourth, she swam to the fifth-fastest time at RU hitting the wall in 1:01.07. She later bettered her time during time trials going out to 1:00.87. Urkiel was also in the A final of the 200 IM and finished fifth as she swam to the second-fastest time in RU history in 2:00.49. In the relays, swam anchor on the sixth-place 800 free (7:22.14) and fifth-place 400 medley relay (3:41.95) and was also a member of the fifth-place 200 free relay (1:34.53) and sixth-place 400 free relay (3:26.51), all which recorded season bests.
Prasanto helped the Scarlet Knight diving corps to a sweep of the top six spots on 3M as she was crowned the event's champion behind the third-highest score in RU history with a 353.55. On 1M, she was narrowly edged out of the top position with a score of 282.90 to land in second. During prelim action, Prasanto was the top finisher as her score of 304.50 gave her the sixth-highest score in RU history and bettered her previous PR of 299.20 set at last year's NCAA finals.Â
