Swimming & Diving Readies For Big Ten Championships

PISCATAWAY, N.J. – The Rutgers women's swimming and diving team is off to the 2024 Big Ten Championships hosted by Purdue at the Morgan J. Burke Aquatic Center on Feb. 21-24.

RUTGERS TOP 10
  • Rutgers has collected 11 top 10 program times/scores heading into this year's championship
  • Most recently, Martyna Piesko posted the eighth fastest time in history in the 100 back (53.11) while also setting the third fastest time in the 100 fly (53.11) while Tina Celik touched the wall with the third fastest 200 breast time (2:13.50) against the Cornhuskers.
  • Celik also captured a B time in the 100 breast (1:01.25) in the cross-border clash with Toronto. 
  • Elysha Pribadi captured the sixth fastest time in the 200 breast (2:14.12) against Villianova and the seventh fastest time in the 100 breast (1:01.91) against Purdue and Oakland and in the 200 IM (2:01.88) versus Villanova.
  • Sephora Ford moved up the all-time platform list in winning the event at the RU Diving Invitational with a score of 269.78 for sixth .
  • Amelia Scott captured the third-best score in RU history on 3M (331.95) against Nebraska and is ninth on platform following her score of 233.50 at the CAMO Invite.
  • Holly Prasanto climbed the 1M list with the seventh-best score of 297.60 in winning the event versus Villanova.

FRESHMAN OF THE WEEK - Elysha Pribadi - Jan. 24

Pribadi became the third Scarlet Knight in history to earn a trio of Big Ten Weekly honors in a season in winning three of RU's 13 events in a 199-99 victory over Villanova, which included a pair of top-10 program performances. Pribadi is the fifth Scarlet Knight to earn Big Ten Freshman of the Week and the fourth to earn multiple Big Ten Freshman of the Week honors in a season since Rutgers joined the league in 2014-15. It marks the most weekly awards for a Scarlet Knights since diver Addison Walkowiak earned four Big Ten Freshman of the Week accolades during the 2014-15 season. The Scarlet Knight freshman swept the breast events. In the 200 breast, Pribadi posted the fifth-fastest time in the Rutgers record books and won with a 5.25-second margin of victory hitting the wall in 2:14.12. The 100 breast saw her take the top time in 1:02.12 posting her fourth win in the event this season. Pribadi also logged the seventh-fastest time on record in the 200 IM with a 5.64-second margin of victory clocking in at 2:01.88. 

FRESHMAN OF THE WEEK - Elysha Pribadi - Nov. 15

Pribadi earned Big Ten Freshman of the Week for the second time this season after the Scarlet Knight freshman captured a new PR in winning the 200 breast and logged third-place times in the 1000 free and 200 IM in Rutgers' meet at Princeton last week. For the second-straight weekend, Pribadi logged a Rutgers top 10 time in the 200 breast. She knocked off .05 seconds off her previous best against Purdue to clock in at 2:14.92 for the sixth fastest time in the Scarlet Knight record book in the victory against the Tigers. Pribadi also made her debut in competing in the 1000 free taking third in 10:17.01 and finished third in the 200 IM with a time of 2:03.45

FRESHMAN OF THE WEEK - Elysha Pribadi - Oct. 11

Pribadi made her Rutgers debut at the Rutgers Preseason Tune-Up winning the 200 IM along with a runner-up finish in the 200 breast at the Rutgers Pre-Season Tune-Up. The Jakarta, Indonesia native won the 200 IM in 2:04.80 finishing ahead of Army's senior duo of Melinda Zhang and Aurelie Migault. Zhang finished sixth in the 200 IM at last year's Patriot League Championships while Migault was the Patriot League champion in the 100 breast and runner-up in the 200 breast. The Scarlet Knight freshman was also the runner-up in the 200 breast clocking in at 2:18.37 behind Migault, the Patriot League Championship runner-up. Pribadi had top-eight finishes in the 100 fly and 100 breast. She logged a time of 56.89 as RU's top finisher in the 100 fly taking fourth. She also claimed fifth in the 100 breast in 1:04.98. She also swam with the 200 and 400 free and 400 medley "C" relay squads and appeared with the 200 medley relay "D" team.

LAST YEAR IN THE WATER
  • Rutgers captured its highest point total at the Big Ten Championships since joining the Big Ten nine years ago and sent NCAA Zone A platform champion Giulia Vittorioso to the NCAA Championships.
  • Altogether the Scarlet Knights produced six podium finishes at the conference championships along with 11 B final competitors and five C final appearances.
  • RU set three new school records in the 100 breast and 200 and 400 medley relays, along with a trio of Rutgers Aquatics Center Pool records in the 50 free, 200 free relay and 200 medley relay.
  • The Scarlet Knights achieved 99 personal bests during the season, 65 event victories,  25 times/scores among the all-time top 10 along with 24 NCAA B cuts/zone scores.
SUMMER WITH THE SCARLET KNIGHTS
  • Rutgers had a busy summer competing for their respective countries overseas with junior Holly Prasanto diving to a second-place finish on 1M at British Nationals and qualifying for the European Games, junior Giulia Vittorioso at the Italian Diving National Championships, sophomore Marytna Piesko at the Polish Senior National Championships, senior Tina Celik representing Slovenia at the U23 European Championships, freshman Orian Gablan swimming for her native Israel at the 2023 World Aquatics Championship.
  • Head coach Jon Maccoll helmed Team USA at the 2023 World Deaf Swimming Championships with the squad earning 25 medals with eight collected by incoming Scarlet Knight Brooke Thompson. Thompson earned two championship titles, winning gold in the 100 back and as a member of the 4x100 mixed free relay. She also picked up three silvers in the 50 free and 200 back and with the 4x100 mixed medley relay squad as well as a trio of bronze medals in the 100 fly, 400 free and 50 back.
RSMART
  • The Scarlet Knights earned the College Swimming & Diving Coaches Association of America (CSCAA) team award with a 3.34 fall GPA  marking the 20th-consecutive semester RU has been honored with one of the nation's top grade-point averages. The Scarlet Knights were one of 461 institutions to hold a team GPA over a 3.0 for the 2023 fall semester.
  • Last spring, eight Scarlet Knights were honored as CSCAA Second Team Scholar Americans for achieving a 3.5 grade point average or higher while collecting NCAA B cuts or advancing to NCAA Zone diving competition including sophomore Martyna Piesko. 
  • Also last season, Rutgers women's swimming and diving posted 12 Big Ten All-Academic honorees and six Big Ten Distinguished Scholars.

  • Rutgers women's swimming will be at the ECAC Last Chance Meet on Feb. 29- Mar. 3 while diving will be at NCAA Zone A competition at Princeton on Mar. 11-13.
