No. 15 Rowing Set for Ivy League Invitational

PRINCETON, N.J. – No. 15 Rowing is set for the Ivy League Invitational on Fri. and Sat., April 12-13 on Lake Carnegie. There are two sessions scheduled over the two days for Rutgers' seven boats - beginning at 12 p.m. on Friday and 11 a.m. on Saturday.

The Scarlet Knights are one of six teams in the nine-team field with a CRCA national ranking or receiving votes in the poll heading into the weekend. Rutgers will race against No. 3 Princeton, No. 6 Brown, No. 10 Penn, No. 18 Harvard, No. 20 USC, RV Columbia, Cornell, and Dartmouth.

The Scarlet Knights are coming off a bye week following a successful day at the Doc Hosea Invitational on March 30. Out of the five feature races at the regatta, Rutgers sent seven of its eight boats to the grand finals. The Varsity 8, 2nd Varsity 8, and Varsity 4 all placed second in their final races behind No. 10 Penn in tight races, with respective margins of 3.3, 4.7, and 3.1 seconds behind Penn.

The Second Varsity 4 was named the Big Ten Boat of the Week for its performance at the Big Ten/Ivy League Dust Up on Saturday, March 23 on the Cooper River in South Jersey. It marked the first Boat of the Week honor of the season for the Scarlet Knights, and the ninth for the program since its first appearance in the conference's weekly awards in 2018. The RU boat beat out the competition from No. 8 Penn and No. 19 Harvard to win its race in Session II of the event. The Scarlet Knights crossed by 18.5 seconds in front of third-place No. 8 Penn, and with a bit of open water (4.7 seconds) ahead of second-place No. 19 Harvard. In the morning session, the boat finished with open water ahead of No. 11 Ohio State, only behind No. 5 Yale.

Rutgers returns 14 of the 23 athletes that competed in the three NCAA Championships boats in 2023, when RU placed 15th in the country with all three boats racing to second-place finishes in the C finals (14th overall). Among the returners is a member of the inaugural CRCA Athletes to Watch list, junior coxswain Victoria Grieder.
