PISCATAWAY, N.J. – Rutgers graduate student
Mattie Boyd was named the Big Ten Pitcher of the Week it was announced on Monday by the conference office.
Boyd held down a 1.17 ERA in 12.0 innings picking up complete game victories on both Saturday and Sunday to help lead the Scarlet Knights to its first-ever series win over Wisconsin. She fanned 16 Badgers and only allowed two runs on four hits keeping Wisconsin to a .103 batting average.
Boyd allowed only one run on two hits while striking out five in RU's 12-1 run-rule victory to even the series with the Badgers.
The Scarlet Knight followed with her 12
th complete game of the 2024 campaign in RU's 4-1 win to improve to 13-6 inside the circle. She struck out 10 marking her third double-digit strikeout game of the year and was one shy of tying her career high. She gave up only two hits in the game.
On the year, Boyd has tossed a league-leading 121.1 innings across 24 appearances with a 2.54 ERA. Altogether she has captured 110 strikeouts and held opponents to a .199 batting average. She is seventh in the Big Ten in strikeouts and fourth in wins.
Boyd is the second Scarlet Knight to earn a Big Ten Weekly award in 2024.
Katie Wingert was named Big Ten Player of the Week on Feb. 12 after helping Rutgers to a 4-1 opening weekend hitting .444 with eight hits, five home runs, five runs, 10 RBIs and a 1.333 slugging percentage in wins over Houston, Colgate and Indiana State.
The award also marks Rutgers' second-ever Big Ten Pitcher of the Week honor since joining the conference starting with the 2015 season. The last Scarlet Knight to earn Pitcher of the Week from the conference was Alyssa Landrith back on Mar 30, 2015.
