Madison Richard Inducted Into South Jersey Soccer Hall of Fame

Rutgers alum and current assistant coach was inducted on May 19, 2024

BLACKWOOD, N.J. – Rutgers Class of 2017 graduate and current women's soccer assistant coach Madison Richard has been inducted into the South Jersey Soccer Hall of Fame. Richard, formerly Madison Tiernan, is entering her ninth season on staff "On the Banks."
 
The Hall of Fame honor celebrates a standout career at Eastern High School before going on to greatness at Rutgers, the National Women's Soccer League (NWSL), and the coaching ranks.
 
She was a four-year starter and four-time leading scorer for Eastern, earning an All-State, All-South Jersey and All-Olympic Conference selection in each of her four seasons with the Vikings. Richard was a two-time captain and three-time team Offensive Most Valuable Player. She finished her career with 79 goals and 45 assists, both of which rank second on the all-time Eastern list, and a then-school record 203 career points.
 
She a three-time regional All-American and was named twice to the NSCAA All-America team. As a senior, she was the NJGSCA's State Player of the Year.
 
Her club career saw her play on the U-15 U.S. National Team and as a member of PDA, which won two club national championships.
 
Richard competed with the Scarlet Knights from 2013-16, concluding her senior season with a team-high 28 points on 11 goals and six assists. The team captain earned NSCAA Second Team All-Great Lakes Region and Second Team All-Big Ten honors in 2016, wrapping up her career "On the Banks" ranked second all-time in shots (275), tied for fifth in game-winning goals (9), sixth all-time in total goals (25), and seventh all-time in points (66).
 
Tiernan was drafted with the No. 24 overall pick in the 2018 NWSL Draft by the Sky Blue FC where she played for several successful seasons. She is currently working with her former club PDA and was elevated to assistant coach with the Rutgers program in 2020.
 
Across her time on staff, Richard has helped guide Rutgers to eight Big Ten Tournaments, three Big Ten Tournament finals, and eight NCAA appearances. With the staff in 2021, Richard aided the Scarlet Knights in bringing home the first-ever Big Ten Conference title in program history and Rutgers history, going undefeated 10-0 in league play. RU advanced to the College Cup for the second time in program history and first since 2015 when Richard was a student-athlete on the team. Richard and the coaching staff were named the 2021 Regional Staff of the Year by United Soccer Coaches following the historic campaign.
