Winter Matches All-Time League Mark with 31 Career Defensive Saves
PISCATAWAY, N.J. - Rutgers field hockey back Puck Winter finished her Scarlet Knights career with 31 defensive saves. That total tied her for the BIg Ten record in the stat, matching Beth Senic, who did so from 1985-1988 for Ohio State.
Winter, who last season became RU's all-time leader in defensive saves, matched the record in dramatic fashion, doing so in overtime against Michigan in the Big Ten Tournament to keep the team's season alive. Winter previously led the NCAA in defensive saves in the past two seasons, with 12 in 2023 and 9 in 2024. With six more defensive saves in the 2025 season, she stands fifth nationally this year.
Winter was named a First Team All-Big Ten selection in 2025. That capped a RU career where she had previously been named the Big Ten Co-Freshman of the Year (2022) and Big Ten Defensive Player of the Year (2023), and is a three-time All-Big Ten and two-time First Team All-Big Ten selection overall.
More accolades are likely to follow for Winter over the next month. The announcements of the NFHCA Senior Team, All-Region, All-American and the All-ECAC awards still to be announced.
