PISCATAWAY, N.J. – Freshman
Delainey Sutley has been named Big Ten Freshman of the Week, announced Tuesday by the conference office. Sutley helped Rutgers women's lacrosse to back-to-back wins over Delaware and Monmouth this past week.
Sutley is the first Big Ten Rookie of the Week since
Payton Tini earned the designation last season, and is the fourth to earn the designation under head coach
Melissa Lehman, joining Tini,
Emalie Clothier (2022) and
Cassidy Spilis (2020).
The Ocean City, New Jersey, native combined for five points in the Scarlet Knights' two victories last week, opening with a career-high three points on two goals and an assist to go along with a ground ball against the Hawks. Sutley followed with a two-goal performance in RU's home victory against the Blue Hens last Saturday at SHI Stadium.
Sutley is tied for fourth on the team this season with five points through Rutgers' first three games of the season. A standout at Ocean City High School from 2021-24, Sutley finished her scholastic career with 245 career points on 216 goals and 29 assists. As a senior in 2024, Sutley posted 87 points on 73 goals and 14 assists, helping the Red Raiders to 16 victories and a NJSIAA South Jersey, Group III semifinal appearance.
Rutgers hosts Le Moyne on Saturday in its next time out. First draw is set for 3 p.m. at SHI Stadium, with the game set to stream on Big Ten Plus. The game is part of a doubleheader with the men's lacrosse program, which hosts Loyola (Md.) at noon in Piscataway.
