Women’s Lacrosse Battles in Loss at No. 4 Yale

NEW HAVEN, Conn. – Rutgers women's lacrosse (3-2) lost a tough 12-6 matchup with No. 4 Yale (5-0) on Saturday afternoon in New Haven, Connecticut. The Scarlet Knights held the Bulldogs to a season low in goals scored, but the home team used 42 shots to remain undefeated.
Graduate student goalkeeper Lexie Coldiron finished with a game-high 16 saves, the most for her this season and her fourth outing with double digit stops this spring. Rookie Maddie Miceli caused a team-high two turnovers, while junior Katie Buck secured three draw controls. Senior Madison Karpe registered a season high four ground balls.
Senior Michelle Warren registered her first multi-goal outing of the season with her team-best two goals. Classmates Alexa Corbin and Victoria Goldrick chipped in two points apiece, while redshirt freshman Samantha Swanovich and rookie Delainey Sutley added goals.
Yale score back-to-back goals to open the game before rookie Caroline Ling found Swanovich to put Rutgers on the board five minutes into the first quarter. The Bulldogs added two more scores prior to Sutley's goal from junior Lily Dixon, as the host held just a 4-2 advantage after the first 15 minutes of action.
RU held Yale to just two goals in the second quarter, while Warren rocketed her first goal of the season to make it a 6-3 game at halftime. Coldiron tallied an impressive 11 saves before the midpoint.
Warren netted a goal out of the break to make it just a two-goal game with 13:46 left in the third quarter. But Yale scored three consecutive goals to own a 9-4 advantage. The Bulldogs took a 10-5 advantage into the fourth quarter after Goldrick scored off a pass from Corbin.
Corbin scored a goal five minutes later to cut it to 10-6 before Yale held the Scarlet Knights off the scoreboard for the remainder of the game. Two goals late from the Bulldogs helped the home squad to its win.
